Somewhwre in the depths of Nottinghamshire, a frenzied game of badminton was coming to a close. The venue - a village hall in Sutton Bornington; the teams - high spirited bellringers; the equipment - teapot lids, large catering saucepans and frying pans; the reult - disputed! But there were better results earlier that day, when three Welsh Colleges teams rang two quarter peals and a peal.
A successful day's ringing, which even saw a course of Bristol Max, was followed by the Annual meeting, where a certain Mr Mundy was somewhat cheered (and proud) to take on the prestigious role of mascot keeper. It is hoped that "Puff" will keep a closer eye on the road than his Master.
That night we all sat down to an excellent Hotel dinner, which for a few of us was followed by an extensive coure of affodillus, Whilst for other it was the last chance to write their speeches. Perhaps time was short because within a few minutes, our "beloved" master's sppech soon came to a premature halt, when the entire audience stood up and left the room desperately persued by the master himself.
The highlight of the evening was soon to follow however, with an excellent rendition of "Bohemian Darren" with instrumentals from the newly elected Master and the retired mascot keeper - a performance dedicated to the honorary "coat bearer" of the society.
Thanks go to the master, deputy master, catering officers and in particular to the secretary (with the aid of the secretary's secretary) who have worked incredibly hard during their year in office. The Cardiff Students are also particularly thankful that the retired master has bought a new coat.
