Easter tour 2000

Oxfordshire, 13-16th April

This was my first tour as Master of the Society. We were due to meet at the Chequers Inn, Aston Tirrold. Unfortunately my journey to the pub was a disaster. I spent thirty minutes lost in didcot, my car broke down and I missed last orders.

Friday morning I left the hall early in search of a garage for a new throttle cable (many thanks to Green Flag for temporary repair). I left Rhyan in charge and arranged to meet everyone later on. I returned sooner than expected as the garage was very busy. I dashed back the the hall in order to get a lift to St. Matthew, Harwell. I arrived back at the hall just as the convoy of cars was leaving. My waving and shouts of "wait for me, I need a lift" were mistaken for "hello, please wave back". I was rescued by Katherine who returned for me. I settled down to enjoy the tour. After a busy day of ringing, we headed back to the Chequers for a mealand some beverages.

Saturday morning I found myself organising cleaning duties: a nameless person had spilt coffee on the carpet. I had the job of informing Chris Mundy of the incident as he'd organised the hall - being master is not as easy job. We set off for another busy day of ringing, including Whites of Appleton foundry - Paul Lewis ran the tower very well. I was glad that it wasn't me running the tower (or should that be foundry?).

In the evening Helen and Kevin prepared a meal whilst a meeting took place to arrange events for later in the year. Thankfully, no one spilt any coffee that night. Many thanks to Katherine for organising the tour - only three months until the summer cycling tour - can't wait.
