We met in the pub (surprise, surprise) in Shepreth on the Friday night, where many pints were consumed, although in uncharacteristically moderate proportions for some who were determined to be sober the next day, so as to avoid a repeat performance of last years performance with no quarter peals being scored. Karen suspected someone might be putting drugs in her beer, and so had to make sure by drinking many pints of it. The next morning confirmed her suspicions (she had a headache).
Four of us set off to Trumpington for the first quarter. As soon as we left the other four decided it was far too early to be setting off yet, and so went for a coffee, leaving us waiting in the cold. However, when we did get going we scored a good quarter of spliced major. Apparently the other quarter was rather late starting due to the conductor being late, but they still squeezed in a quarter of Bob Major.
Two more quarters were successfully scored after lunch, while some went off to Shepreth Wildlife park, and had a disagreement with some monkeys. Alison made some rather (un)subtle hints in the morning that she wanted someone to buy her a monkey mask, and by the time I met them in the pub after the quarter she was wearing one, complete with a hole cut for a straw to drink her beer with.
The evening saw the return to pub with beer being drunk in rather less modest qualities by some, which proved a bad idea the next morning, although it was probably Malcolm's rum that tipped the balance.
We went back to the
Star in Melbourn for Sunday lunch before heading off our seperate ways. A
thoroughly enjoyable weekend all in all, especially so due to the 100% rate
of the quarters. Congratulations are especially due to Malcolm for scoring his 1000th quarter.
Many thanks to Kit for organising it.
