Dinner Weekend 2000 - Northampton, 18-20th February
Here goes with a tour write up which should have been written donkeys years ago (donkeys can't live very long if their year is about 5 months).
After the mindless slaughter of some of the local wildlife, the society met up at the Butchers Arms in Greens Norton on the Friday night. Saturday morning ringing was at 762433, 745395 and 787404 on OS Landranger map 152. There were towers in the afternoon as well, but neither of us can remember where. We rang some surprise methods, and some plain ones, and probably some call changes too. Maybe even some Stedman. Who knows?
The AGM took place back at the hall in the afternoon, with a long battle for the position of mascot keeper. The Master made an awful fuss about the fact that the WC's chain of office was in fact a manky Welsh flag stuck in a lavatory chain (geddit?).
The dinner took place at the Saracens Head Hotel, Towcester. Then we ate and drank and drank some more, and listened to some people speaking. Percy managed to stay sober enough to give a highly entertaining (but very rude) romance officers speech, much more successful than his effort the previous year. Then we danced to an excellent band who played modern jazz/Latin influenced rock classics. Ricky Martin and things like that. They were top.
We can remember very little else apart from the usual sordid details of who got off with who, which is hardly appropriate for a family publication like the RW, and a good time was had by all.
